Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) officials and Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) Members formally recognized South Live Oak Elementary (SLOE) this month for being named a Louisiana Blue Ribbon School for its success in student academic performance and growth.

The parish’s elementary school is one of only eight schools across the state to be named a 2025 Louisiana Blue Ribbon School.

SLOE is a standout among its peers for demonstrating remarkable progress in closing the achievement gap between its higher and lower performing students.  The school has been named a Top Gains and Opportunity Honoree by the state and recognized as having the Highest Assessment Index for K-8 (93.2) and Excellence in Attendance.

“This recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance and make significant strides in closing achievement gaps. However, this award is not simply about test scores or ranking; it is about a school’s commitment to excellence, innovation and opportunity,” said Louisiana Assistant Superintendent of Education Trey Folse.
